petit tricotage : hats for blythe & other dolls

Handknit Bobble Hat for Blythe by Petit Tricotage.
Petit Tricotage makes amazing sculptural hats. They would no doubt belong to the same category as those of Megan Talarmo (megipupu), so definitely not your ordinary Blythe doll hats.
Besides the funny and so interesting shape, I really love the colors of that one which she describes as having :
shades of yellow, light red, dark red, and slate blue twining through it. The almost solid, mustard yellow provides a warm contrast.
And about the shape she says :
The hat gets its signature look from the bobbles at the ends of its two ties and the lone, perky bobble standing straight up on top of the wearer’s head.
Now I am no knitter, so I had never thought about this before, but she chooses the size of her needles very carefully :
At Petit Tricotage, all items are handknit with great attention to scale and fit. Whenever possible, the knitting is seamless to avoid the added bulk of seams.
The fibres used are chosen not only for their colour and handfeel but also for their scale. They are knit on tiny needles ranging in size from 2mm to 0.50mm in diameter. This allows for garments constructed with stitches scaled believably small and in proportion to the dolls who will wear them.
What an interesting issue ! On her blog she writes about her experiments with scaling the bobble hat for smaller dolls such as Momoko, Fashion Royalty, Pukis.
And I am not much into “skulls” but it is a motif she uses – see for instance that stunning Bobble Hat For Blythe with Skulls and Snowflakes – and she made similar experiments in scaling down her “skull hats”.
